Xerox has launched four
new storage products designed to help companies better
retain and store important corporate information and
meet various legislative and regulatory requirements.
Engineered for professional data-archiving applications,
the new Xerox UDO (Ultra Density Optical) drive, storage
library and media allow office workers to securely
archive and access three times more data than they can
on standard Magneto-Optical (MO) drives, at a fraction
of the cost. UDO technology is widely recognized as the
next-generation industry standard for professional data
storage.
In addition, the Xerox solutions can be combined with
Xerox DocuMate scanners to automatically generate and
store searchable PDF documents from customer invoices to
patient records a powerful solution for operations that
need improved data-retention processes.
Xerox UDO Technology Description:
The four new products are
the Xerox UDO 100 single drive, its first professional
blue laser optical disk drive designed specifically to
meet the demands of long-term archival storage
environments; the Xerox UDO 224 storage library, a small
tower that houses two UDO drives and 24 media slots to
hold up to 720 GB of storage; Xerox Rewritable media,
which can be used to erase and rewrite data; and Xerox
Write Once media, which uses an irreversible recording
technique making it chemically impossible for the laser,
regardless of the temperature, to alter the data on the
recording surface once it's been written.
With Write Once media,
data can never be changed or altered and is impervious
to virus attacks and hacking. This makes UDO the
best choice for long-term archives that demand record
authenticity. Both the Rewritable and Write Once media
have a capacity of 30GB.
UDO devices use blue
lasers to record data, rather than the red lasers used
in previous optical drives such as MO and DVD. Blue
lasers achieve far greater data densities, allowing
people to store more information and then retrieve it
faster. Blue laser technology gives 30GB UDO media a
three-fold increase in storage capacity compared to
previous generation magneto-optical and DVD
technologies.
UDO technology ensures
100 percent data integrity and authenticity important
for regulatory compliance and is designed to provide
decades of dependable data retention. The Xerox drives
are engineered to securely store data for more than 50
years.
The Need for Trustworthy Data
Archives:
The need for archiving is
being accelerated by increased industry regulation and
litigation, as well as the growing perceived value of
long-term knowledge assets. Organizations seeking
secure retention of important information include
industries such as health care, financial services and
government markets.
Regulatory issues are
driving huge record retention demand today. Anyone
big enough to have corporate counsel is going to have to
start keeping electronic records on a permanent basis.
UDO is still one of the only truly unalterable mediums
that will satisfy virtually all long-term retention
concerns.
Pricing:
The Xerox UDO 100 External
Desktop Drive is $3,499, the Xerox UDO
224 Storage Library is $12,999, the Xerox
Write Once media is $59.99 and the Xerox Rewritable
media is $69.99.
