New DocSTAR™ Software Integrates Over 150 Native Documents And The UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE® ELECTRONIC POSTMARK ®

Version 3.4 continues to strengthen the efficiency of the entire document management process.

SCHENECTADY, NY (FEBRUARY 17, 2005)  DocSTAR (Document Storage and Retrieval), the leader in easy to use, fast to implement, smart document imaging solutions, is incorporating native document support and is embedding the USPS Electronic Postmark (USPS EPM®) in Version 3.4.

The new offering successfully builds upon prior versions and brings DocSTAR to a new level of functionality.  “We’re now able to store and display over 150 different file formats,” said Ira Whitman, DocSTAR’s chief technology officer.  “As a result, DocSTAR is taking the next step beyond document imaging and into content management.”

DocSTAR™ Software Version 3.4 includes:

Native Document Support

DocSTAR can now import computer files from most applications, including word processors, spreadsheets, CAD programs, etc. and store them in their native format.  This allows the file to be opened by their native application program outside of DocSTAR and modified, while DocSTAR retains the original and guards it against undetected tampering using AuthentiDate image marks. Imported spreadsheets, reports, emails, and other electronic files can be archived in DocSTAR.

Users wishing to modify a document can open it in the original application.  However, the unchanged original remains safely stored in DocSTAR with AuthentiDate protection.

There are several ways to import native documents, but for three important Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel and Outlook, an especially convenient toolbar mechanism is provided.  DocSTAR automatically adds a special toolbar button to these applications so the users’ documents can be sent to DocSTAR with just a single click.

USPS Electronic Postmark (USPS EPM®)

With Version 3.4, DocSTAR customers will be able to electronically postmark the aggregate record of what is included in daily filings. Applying the USPS EPM provides legal strength through automatic creation of an electronic “fingerprint”, which serves as evidence of electronic file content. This fingerprint (or digital hash file) is then stored in a third-party repository, which enables users to verify content authenticity. As such, the USPS EPM serves as an invaluable non-repudiation tool.

The addition of EPM provides an additional layer of security and verification to protect authenticity of documents stored in DocSTAR.

“DocSTAR imaging systems already provide customers with ease of use, rapid deployment, flexibility, security, data protection, seamless integration and a fast return on investment”, commented Thomas Franceski, DocSTAR’s President.  “Incorporation of the USPS EPM to version 3.4 adds to document integrity assurance and demonstrates our dedication to continually improving our products and services.”

Suren Pai, President and CEO, Authentidate, Inc. comments “DocSTAR’s decision to embed the USPS EPM into their coming release serves to emphasize the need for impeccable record-keeping through the most trustworthy means in the electronic workplace”.

Improved Ease-Of-Use

The new DocSTAR software incorporates a variety of enhancements that further elevate ease-of-use for all users. To improve user friendliness, DocSTAR now includes an Update mechanism that can change a name or code number used to file many documents in a single step. The system administrator sets up updates so that designated users can conveniently and accurately run them.

The DocSTAR Manual File and View windows now have the ability to be pinned “on top” of other applications.  This allows the user to keep a DocSTAR document visible as the user performs data entry or verification in another program.  This is a great benefit to users that can now avoid the hassle of flipping back and forth between applications. This is typically used in integrated environments employing front end scanning.

New PDF Viewer

With DocSTAR 3.4, some PDF improvements have been made. The Adobe Reader® is no longer needed for viewing of PDF files. This allows PDFs to be annotated and makes PDF viewing more consistent with the viewing of scanned documents.

More Powerful Integration

Version 3.4 brings new features to DocSTAR’s optional Integration Agent module that enhances functionality.

Virtual Cover Sheets which are useful in both “front end” and “back end” scanning schemes is now included in the optional Integration Agent module. The Virtual Cover Sheet captures document index information that is to be used during filing from integrated applications, but without the printing of the cover. This saves paper and helps avoid the confusion of looking for cover sheets at a shared printer.

Other enhancements to Integration Agent also include: printing of cover pages using Code 128 barcodes for TAM and other integrated applications. Special characters, such as ampersand (&) which are common in some client names or customer codes are handled by Code 128.

Optional Module Enhancements

Optional module enhancements are also available with the release of Version 3.4. These modules include: DataLink, Barcode, WebView, TAM Integration and Attaché. For more information on these modules, please Contact an authorized DocSTAR Business Partner, such as Las Vegas Paperless Solutions.

DocSTAR Version 3.4 is available immediately through authorized DocSTAR Business Partners, such as Las Vegas Paperless Solutions.  It will come standard with all new imaging systems, and upgrades to eligible installed products will be offered through the DocSTAR SoftCare licensing program.
